Brett Gardner hasn’t played on a Yankees team quite like this

PHOENIX — Brett Gardner has won a World Series with Derek Jeter, Alex Rodriguez, Robinson Cano and Mark Teixeira, so he understands star power and what it means to a team.

He watched what Giancarlo Stanton and Aaron Judge did last year when healthy.

Now, Stanton and Judge are on the injured list along with a bevy of other Yankees stars and the team is rolling thanks to players whose names when mentioned are met by “Who?’’

Where Didi Gregorius, Aaron Hicks, Miguel Andujar, Judge and Stanton once played, Gardner looks at the lineup card and sees Gio Urshela, Mike Tauchman, Thairo Estrada, Mike Ford and Tyler Wade.

Also in plain sight is Gleyber Torres having moved from second to shortstop when Troy Tulowitzki went on the IL five games into the season.

It’s popular these days to refer to these Yankees as “The Scranton Yankees’’ but they aren’t without established major league players such as Gardner, DJ LeMahieu and Gary Sanchez with Luke Voit moving in that direction.

So what is it like playing with lesser lights who have helped the Yankees carve out a 17-11 record and win 11 of their past 13 games.
