‘The Hunt’ canceled after Trump slams movie in tweet

A controversial soon-to-be released movie trashed by President Trump on Twitter Friday has been canceled entirely, Universal Studios announced Saturday.

“The Hunt,” starring Hilary Swank — and billed as a “satirical horror film” — told the story of liberal elitists who gleefully track and kill Trump-supporting “deplorables” kidnapped from red states and dumped in a hunting preserve.

Ads for the movie were pulled in the wake of last weekend’s mass shootings in El Paso, Texas, and Dayton, Ohio, but its September release was still set to go forward — until Trump got wind of its theme.

“The movie coming is made in order to inflame and cause chaos,” Trump tweeted Friday. “They create their own violence, and then try to blame others.”

“They are the true Racists, and are very bad for our Country!” he wrote.

The backlash forced the studio to change its plans.

“We stand by our filmmakers and will continue to distribute films in partnership with bold and visionary creators, like those associated with this satirical social thriller,” the studio said in a statement to The Hill. “But we understand that now is not the right time to release this film.”
